The 2009 LA Auto Show will offer a number of all-new models and concepts from a bevy of automotive brands. But perhaps some of the most highly-anticipated vehicles are those from General Motors. Several GM brands will be showing off exciting new sedans that are hoped to help turn the “New GM” into a competitive powerhouse yet again.

Chevrolet

Chevrolet will be unveiling two the game-changing models that should see intense interest from consumers. First is the Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan. As an eventually replacement for the lackluster Cobalt, the Cruze offers style, excellent quality, and even 40 miles per gallon on the highway. To further quell expectations that GM can’t produce fuel efficient vehicles, Chevy will also be debuting the electric Volt sedan. With the ability to travel up to 40 miles on electricity alone, GM estimates that the Volt will attain the equivalent of 230 miles per gallon. Expect to the space price of the Volt to be in the neighborhood of $40,000.

Buick has long been seen as a stodgy brand that appeals only to the over 60 crowd, but as one of the brand to survive restructuring, it just goes to show how important the Buick brand is to GM. One new model being unveiled will be the 2011 Regal, which is hoped to continue Buick’s revitalization. Based on the Opel Insignia, the Regal is based on GM’s front-wheel drive global platform, and offer European-tuned suspension, elegant styling, and even powerful yet fuel efficient engines. The Regal will go on sale the in the second quarter of this year and is hoped to attract younger buyers to Buick, just as the recently updated LaCrosse is intended to do.

Cadillac has been struggling to compete more aggressively against the likes of its German and Japanese competitors. However, to solve this problem, Cadillac will be expanding its CTS lineup and will unveil the CTS coupe and a CTS wagon. Although these models have been delayed due to GM’s financial woes, the company expects that these new models will help the CTS compete more aggressively against the Infiniti G and the BMW 3 Series.
